Java Software Engineer

ShipperHQ is headquartered in Austin, TX making a big impact in the e-commerce shipping space. Founded in 2009, we are a premier supplier of shipping software for e-commerce sites, selling to both SMB and Enterprise customers. We have 50+ team members spread across the globe with 30+ members based in Austin, Texas. We are seeking an ambitious and self-motivated individual with a positive attitude and a strong collaborative mindset.

What You’ll Do:

As a Software Engineer, you’ll primarily work with Java, but you’ll also have the opportunity to expand your skill set by exploring AWS, Node, PHP, and React. This is a collaborative role working closely with our Engineering team and cross-departmentally. Your Impact:

• Work collaboratively with the engineering team to deliver projects
• Keep one eye on overall code quality and health and constantly improve product quality in small ways
• Help triage escalated support tickets and provide training/guidance to support engineers
• Collaborate with senior engineers on software design decisions
• Provide recommendations on design patterns, code improvements, and process improvements

What We’re Looking For:

• 2+ years of relevant experience working in Java
• Experience with additional languages/platforms as we also maintain projects in Java, Rails, PHP, React, and other systems
• Willingness to learn new languages, technologies, and stacks
• Demonstrable experience troubleshooting production services and working in a TDD fashion
• Understand development fundamentals including design patterns and object-oriented programming
• Adept at navigating ambiguity and adapting to a fast-growing environment

• Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
• Approach challenges with a positive attitude and initiative to find solutions.

Logistics:

• This is a full-time position working out of our Austin, TX office 2 days a week
• Compensation is based on experience
